Tuesday I had to go to the pediatrician with Florian for his regular checkup. He got two vaccinations. He was a very brave boy, only screaming 5 seconds and then he was fine again. In the afternoon we went to meet the mommies and their daughters. The girls had a toy baby wagon and Florian had to get in as a doll and the oldest girl drove him. I do not know if he really liked it..

Thursday evening I went again to my first aid for children course. You should think it would be very boring, but our teacher (from Amsterdam) has got a lot of humor, so I think it was really fun and interesting.

Saturday we celebrated Saint Nicolas with Erik’s family. Officially it was one day late and Saint Nicolas was already gone back to Madrid (Spain), but both boys did not notice this, so we planned it on a Saturday. In the morning suddenly someone was knocking on the door! We quickly went to the door and there was a gunny with a lot of presents in it! Where did black Piet and Saint Nicolas go to?? So now both boys could unwrap their presents and play with them!

Monday Erik’s parents came to visit us and played a lot with Florian, which he liked!

Thursday I went to my first aid for children again. This was the last normal course. Next week we have our exam!

Friday I baked Florian’s birthday cake. Which went luckily very well!
Saturday we celebrated Florian’s and Erik birthday. We rented a big room, so all our family and some friends could come. Florian did not really understand what was expected from him, so we blew out the candle together! Florian and Erik both enjoyed the party and the many presents. At the end Florian was a bit tired, but still quite ok. After we got home he immediately fell asleep.

Sunday Erik’s parents came to visit us for Erik’s real birthday.

Monday Florian and I had a small birthday party with our neighbors. Florian had another chance to blow out the candle, which did not work out. Some practice is needed! Then we ate the cake and Florian played with it!

Wednesday my mom came to visit and babysit Florian. They went for a walk to the beach. In the afternoon I went to the gym. In the evening I studied for my first aid for children exam.

Thursday evening I had my first aid for children exam and I passed it and got my certificate!

Monday I went to the gym again. Florian went to the daycare there. When I came back, he still enjoyed himself. After sitting with me some time, he now for the first time cradled away from me to get a toy and was getting up and standing at a box himself!

Tuesday I went to our neighbors for a cup of coffee. Florian off course came with me and played the next hour enthusiastic with them! In the evening I had dinner in the center of The Hague with some of my friends. One of them was here on a visit from China, so it was nice to see her and her boyfriend again. After dinner we had a quick drink in their hotel and then I bicycled home again.

Wednesday morning we went to my sister in Geldrop to celebrate Christmas with my family. For the Netherlands this is one day to early, but for us it is the easiest way to organize Christmas with our big family (19 people). In the morning it was still quiet. After lunch Florian had to get to sleep, but he did not want it, so he skipped his lunch sleep. In the afternoon the rest of the family arrived and we chatted a bit. At the end of the afternoon we prepared dinner together. In the garden my brother made a fire and grilled some meat and vegetables on it and some of the 9 children watched the fire. In the kitchen it was also very busy preparing the food. So around 17:30 we could eat! After dinner all children went to see a cartoon and began to get sleepy. So time for us to go home again.

On Christmas day we stayed home together with the three of us and in the evening we roasted some meat and vegetables in our living room.

Friday morning we stayed at home. In the afternoon we visited my father and stayed for dinner.

Saturday morning it was snowing for the first time in two years! It was nice to see everything in white. In the morning I drove to the supermarket and it was very quiet on the road. Most people have summer tires here, so if not necessary they do not drive with snow. But as we have winter tires and we are used to drive with snow, it was really fun! I really enjoyed my ride. Later on I also drove to the gym.

Sunday everything was very slippery, because the snow had melted a bit and now was frozen. So we stayed at home. In the evening the snow melted further and the next day everything was gone.

Tuesday a Dutch colleague of mine and her boyfriend came to visit me. It was nice to see her again! After some chatting we walked to the beach. At the beach there were two groups piling up pallet for a big fire for New Year’s Eve. On the south beach they were trying to get a record for the Guinness Book of Records so the pallets should be 20 meter high. On the north beach they always want to have the biggest fire of the two, so they also needed to build 20 meter. The last group wanted the fire to be part of the National Heritage, so they would be allowed to build this fire every year. (both groups made it.)

New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, morning I went to the gym and Erik stayed at home with Florian. The rest of the day we stayed at home and for dinner we roasted some meat and vegetables in our living room. In the evening we waited till it was 0:00 and then we toasted and looked outside to see some firework.

This was the last of my blogs after writing for a total of more than 7 years. We hope you all enjoyed it and we hope that we keep in touch!

We also wish you the best for 2015!

Cheers,
Marja, Erik & Florian
